This Saturday is Gather’s “every 5th Saturday” Service Worship. Service Worship is a bit of a play on words to try and capture the biblical perspective that our worship is bigger than songs we sing or scriptures we listen to. Worship is as much about how we live our lives as it is anything. The Apostle Paul writes: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” It is important to note that Paul begins this sentence with “therefore.” “Therefore” tips us off to the fact that Paul’s “urging” is the natural outflow of the preceding verses. So what precedes it? It is a doxology glorifying God because of his greatness, wisdom, righteousness and grace. Paul concludes that these glorious attributes of God should lead us to offer ourselves, not as motionless, un-lively worshipers but, “living sacrifices,” offerings to God that, just like His Son, serve God by serving one another in love! This, Paul says, is “true and proper worship.” Join us this Saturday at 5:30 as we worship through service!
