Don’t you just love Christianeze- that exclusive “Christian” language that does little more than confuse, frustrate and make people feel like an outsider? Terms and phrases like: redemption, justification, slain, on my heart, salvation, testimony, tongues, sanctification, word, and Law & Prophets to name a few. While some of those terms can simply be done away with or exchanged for more common language, there are others we simply must keep. Of those we must keep, the key is to define them well and use them wisely. With this in mind, this Saturday, we are delving into the Word with a salvific fury that seeks to sanctify our understanding of two of these terms, specifically, Law & Prophets (all puns intended 🙂 ). So what about the Law & Prophets? What is the Law and what or who are the Prophets? Well, for now, a couple quotes from Jesus will have to do. Concerning his relationship to the Law and Prophets, Jesus said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them” and concerning their purpose he said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Please join us this Saturday as we seek to unpack a bit of our essential Christianeze.
