So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. -Genesis 1:27
Woman and man are created unique, but both are made in God’s image. That means there is something special of God’s image revealed in both man and woman. If then, we look to just one or the other or just at the similarities, then we miss a great deal of God’s grandeur. For example, there is something very special of God’s image revealed in a mother. So wonderful is the image of God reflected in a mother that the Scriptures often use motherly images to reveal the nurture, care, love, protection and self-sacrifice of God. To miss God’s image revealed in mothers is to, in numerous ways, miss out on the vastness of God’s love.
Women: You are beautifully made in God’s image. Being made in God image means that God does know what it means to be woman and what it means to be a mother.
Men: Failure to pay attention to, and respect, the uniqueness of God’s image in woman is to miss something of the greatness and grandeur of God.
